La historia
Sofía había hablado con Daniel por una semana. Se conocieron en una aplicación y, después de varios mensajes, él le propuso verse el sábado por la tarde. A ella le pareció una buena idea, así que aceptó. Antes de salir, se arregló un poco, tomó su celular y salió de su casa con tiempo.
Camino al café, recibió un mensaje corto: "No voy a poder ir. Lo siento". Sofía se quedó mirando la pantalla. Pensó que Daniel la había dejado plantada y sintió un nudo en el estómago. Ya estaba cerca, pero quiso regresar. Entonces leyó otra vez el mensaje y vio que venía de un número desconocido.
Entró al café de todos modos. Daniel ya estaba allí, esperando junto a la ventana con una mesa para dos. Cuando la vio, sonrió con alivio. "Qué bien que viniste", le dijo. Sofía, confundida, levantó el celular y mostró el mensaje. Daniel abrió mucho los ojos. "Yo no lo mandé. Tal vez alguien se equivocó de número", respondió.
Por un momento, ella no supo qué decir. Luego él le enseñó su celular: había estado llamándola, pero ella tenía el modo silencioso activado. "De acuerdo", dijo Sofía, respirando hondo. "Entonces sí era un malentendido". Los dos se rieron, y la tensión bajó de inmediato. El mesero llegó justo a tiempo y les tomó la orden.

Sofía had talked with Daniel for a week. They met on an app and, after several messages, he suggested meeting on Saturday afternoon. It seemed like a good idea to her, so she accepted. Before leaving, she fixed herself up a little, took her cell phone, and left her house early.
On the way to the café, she received a short message: "I won’t be able to go. Sorry." Sofía kept staring at the screen. She thought Daniel had stood her up and felt a knot in her stomach. She was already close, but she wanted to go back. Then she read the message again and saw that it came from an unknown number.
She went into the café anyway. Daniel was already there, waiting by the window with a table for two. When he saw her, he smiled with relief. "How nice that you came," he told her. Sofía, confused, held up her cell phone and showed him the message. Daniel opened his eyes wide. "I didn’t send it. Maybe someone got the wrong number," he replied.
For a moment, she didn’t know what to say. Then he showed her his cell phone: he had been calling her, but she had the silent mode turned on. "Okay," Sofía said, taking a deep breath. "So it really was a misunderstanding." The two of them laughed, and the tension dropped immediately. The waiter arrived just in time and took their order.
They talked for more than an hour. They discovered that they both liked books, long walks, and strong coffee. Daniel said that he works during the week and studies at night. Sofía said that she also had little free time, but that she wanted to get to know someone without rushing. When they left, it was already dark and the street was full of buses.
At the bus stop, Daniel asked her if she wanted to meet again on Thursday. Sofía smiled, this time with less nervousness. "Yes, okay," she answered. "But this time, if you change plans, call me directly." He nodded and they said goodbye with a short laugh. As she got on the bus, she thought that sometimes a bad beginning does not prevent a good story.
