La historia
El miércoles empezó con una lista larga de tareas y con poco tiempo. Tomás llegó a la oficina en Santiago con el computador bajo el brazo y el celular sonando sin parar. Su jefa le había pedido el informe final antes de las nueve. Él había revisado el texto la noche anterior, pero todavía le faltaba un archivo con las cifras del último trimestre.
Cuando abrió su bandeja de entrada, vio el correo de Paula, su compañera de contabilidad. El asunto decía: "Cifras actualizadas". Tomás suspiró aliviado y descargó el archivo adjunto al tiro. Pero al abrir el documento notó algo raro. Los números no coincidían con la versión que él tenía en su carpeta.
Fue a buscar a Paula y le dijo en voz baja: "Creo que hay un error". Ella frunció el ceño y revisó su pantalla. "No puede ser", respondió. "Yo las saqué del sistema hace una hora". Durante unos segundos, los dos quedaron en silencio. Si el archivo estaba mal, el informe completo podía perder credibilidad ante el cliente. Tomás no quería que Paula interpretara su pregunta como una crítica a su trabajo. Sin embargo, aceptar las cifras sin comprobarlas tampoco le parecía justo para el equipo. Le mostró la diferencia entre los documentos.
Paula abrió otra vez el sistema y encontró el problema. Había exportado una versión anterior por accidente. Entonces envió el archivo correcto y Tomás lo reemplazó de inmediato. Después, los dos revisaron el informe línea por línea. "Menos mal que lo vimos ahora", dijo él. "Sí, si no, habría sido un desastre", contestó ella con una sonrisa cansada. A las ocho cincuenta, enviaron el informe a la jefa. Paula agradeció que Tomás hubiera consultado con ella antes de sacar conclusiones.
A las nueve y media, la jefa entró a la sala de reuniones con el cliente. Tomás esperaba que les pidieran algún cambio, pero la reunión salió mejor de lo previsto. El cliente hizo pocas preguntas y dijo que el informe estaba claro. Cuando todo terminó, la jefa miró a Tomás y a Paula. "Buen trabajo", dijo. Ellos se miraron y se rieron en silencio. La mañana había empezado mal, pero terminó bien. Revisar el trabajo del otro había reforzado la confianza entre ellos.

The full story in English
Wednesday began with a long list of tasks and with little time. Tomás arrived at the office in Santiago with the computer under his arm and his cellphone ringing nonstop. His boss had asked him for the final report before nine. He had reviewed the text the night before, but he was still missing a file with the figures from the last quarter.
When he opened his inbox, he saw the email from Paula, his accounting coworker. The subject said: "Updated figures." Tomás sighed with relief and downloaded the attachment right away. But when he opened the document, he noticed something strange. The numbers did not match the version he had in his folder.
He went to look for Paula and told her in a low voice, "I think there is an error." She frowned and checked her screen. "That can’t be," she replied. "I pulled them from the system an hour ago." For a few seconds, the two of them were silent. If the file was wrong, the entire report could lose credibility with the client. Tomás did not want Paula to interpret his question as criticism of her work. However, accepting the figures without checking them did not seem fair to the team either. He showed her the difference between the documents.
Paula opened the system again and found the problem. She had exported an earlier version by accident. Then she sent the correct file and Tomás replaced it immediately. After that, the two of them checked the report line by line. "Good thing we saw it now," he said. "Yes, if not, it would have been a disaster," she answered with a tired smile. At eight fifty, they sent the report to their boss. Paula appreciated that Tomás had checked with her before drawing conclusions.
At nine thirty, the boss entered the meeting room with the client. Tomás expected them to be asked to make a change, but the meeting went better than expected. The client asked few questions and said the report was clear. When everything ended, the boss looked at Tomás and Paula. "Good work," she said. They looked at each other and laughed quietly. The morning had started badly, but it ended well. Checking each other’s work had strengthened the trust between them.
