La historia
El sábado por la tarde, Ana llegó a la casa de su abuela con la intención de cocinar algo especial para toda la familia. Su prima Luisa ya estaba en la cocina, picando cebolla y revisando una receta escrita a mano. La abuela sonrió y dijo que, si seguían bien las instrucciones, el resultado iba a estar buenísimo. Ana se rió, porque sabía que la abuela usaba esa palabra cuando algo le encantaba.
Mientras preparaban la masa, Ana buscó el aceite de oliva y no lo encontró. Miró dentro de la alacena dos veces y luego revisó la mesa. "Un momento", dijo Luisa. "Yo vi una botella hace rato, pero la puse al lado del arroz". Las dos empezaron a buscar con más prisa. La abuela, más tranquila, les recordó que en su cocina casi siempre aparecía lo que faltaba cuando dejaban de correr.
Cuando por fin encontraron el aceite, terminaron de preparar la masa del postre. Ana giró un botón del horno y esperó unos minutos. Después metió el molde y cerró la puerta con cuidado. Al volver a revisar el postre, Luisa frunció el ceño. "El horno sigue frío", dijo. Ana había entendido mal la nota de la receta y solo había activado el reloj. La masa seguía cruda. Si no encendían el horno ahora, el postre no estaría listo para la cena.
La abuela no se molestó. Le pidió a Ana que sacara el molde y encendiera el horno. Cuando estuvo caliente, volvieron a meter el postre. On Saturday afternoon, Ana arrived at her grandmother's house with the intention of cooking something special for the whole family. Her cousin Luisa was already in the kitchen, chopping onion and checking a handwritten recipe. Grandmother smiled and said that, if they followed the instructions well, the result was going to be delicious. Ana laughed because she knew her grandmother used that word when she loved something.
While they were preparing the dough, Ana looked for the olive oil and could not find it. She looked inside the cupboard twice and then checked the table. "One moment," Luisa said. "I saw a bottle a while ago, but I put it next to the rice." The two of them began to search more quickly. Grandmother, calmer, reminded them that in her kitchen what was missing almost always appeared when they stopped rushing.
When they finally found the oil, they finished preparing the dough for the dessert. Ana turned a knob on the oven and waited a few minutes. Then she put in the pan and closed the door carefully. When she came back to check the dessert, Luisa frowned. "The oven is still cold," she said. Ana had misunderstood the note in the recipe and had only activated the timer. The dough was still raw. If they did not turn on the oven now, the dessert would not be ready for dinner.
Grandmother did not get upset. She asked Ana to take out the pan and turn on the oven. When it was hot, they put the dessert back in. Later, they covered the top with aluminum foil so it would not burn. While they waited, they talked about the recipe and about how grandmother had learned it by heart.
