La historia

María vive en un edificio pequeño en Lima. Saluda a sus vecinos cada mañana. Hoy oye un golpe en su puerta. Abre con cuidado.

Es su vecina Rosa. Rosa sonríe, pero está preocupada. Dice: "Perdí mi llave". María mira el pasillo y pregunta: "¿La buscas aquí?"

Rosa revisa su bolso. También revisa su abrigo. No encuentra nada. María toma su celular. Llama al portero. El portero no responde.

Entonces un niño del quinto piso baja con una sonrisa. "La llave está en la mesa de la entrada", dice. Rosa abre los ojos. Ella recuerda la mesa. Las dos van juntas al primer piso.

Allí está la llave. Rosa ríe y dice: "¡Qué bueno!" María también ríe. Rosa le da las gracias. María vuelve a su casa contenta.

3 · English Translation

The full story in English

María lives in a small building in Lima. She greets her neighbors every morning. Today she hears a knock at her door. She opens carefully.

It is her neighbor Rosa. Rosa smiles, but she is worried. She says, "I lost my key." María looks at the hallway and asks, "Are you looking for it here?"

Rosa checks her bag. She also checks her coat. She finds nothing. María takes her cell phone. She calls the doorman. The doorman does not answer.

Then a boy from the fifth floor comes down with a smile. "The key is on the entry table," he says. Rosa opens her eyes. She remembers the table. The two go together to the first floor.

There is the key. Rosa laughs and says, "How good!" María laughs too. Rosa thanks her. María returns home happy.
