Una mesa para el viernes

A Table for Friday

The full story in English

On Friday afternoon, Clara finished work and called her friend Martín. They both wanted to go out for dinner. Clara chose a small restaurant near her home. They made her favorite soup there.

They arrived at eight. The restaurant was full and soft music was playing. Clara spoke to the waiter. "I have a table for two under the name Clara López." He looked for her name on a list.

The waiter looked at the list again. Her table was reserved for Saturday. Clara checked the message on her phone. It was true. The reservation was for the next day. "Sorry, I chose the wrong date."

Martín was very hungry. He already wanted to look for another restaurant. Then the waiter pointed to a table near the door. It was small and only had one chair. "I can bring another chair," he said. The friends agreed.

Clara ordered soup and Martín ordered chicken with rice. The food arrived quickly. During dinner they talked about their families and work. Clara was happy. The mistake did not ruin their plans.

Afterward they asked for the bill and canceled Saturday's reservation. Before leaving, they thanked the waiter for his help. Then they walked together to the square. They still had time for an ice cream.
