La historia
Esa tarde, Nora abrió su computador para terminar una presentación. Llovía fuerte en Santiago y el ruido en la calle tapaba todo. Ella había prometido enviar el archivo antes de las siete, porque al día siguiente tenía una reunión importante con un cliente.
Cuando apretó el botón de encendido, la pantalla quedó negra. Nora lo intentó dos veces más. Nada. Respiró hondo y dijo en voz baja: "No, ahora no". Sacó el celular y llamó a su hermano Tomás.
Tomás contestó al tiro. Le pidió que revisara el cargador y el cable del computador. Nora miró debajo del escritorio, movió una silla y encontró el enchufe suelto. Lo conectó de nuevo, pero la pantalla siguió igual. "Entonces puede ser la batería", dijo él, con calma.
Ella frunció el ceño. "No entiendo, si estaba cargando toda la tarde". Tomás le pidió que girara el computador y viera una luz pequeña al costado. Nora no la había notado. Era tenue, pero estaba encendida. Eso le dio un poco de esperanza.
Después, Tomás le dijo que desconectara todo por un minuto. Mientras esperaba, Nora recordó que esa mañana había movido varios cables para limpiar el escritorio. Al volver a conectar el cargador, vio que había usado el puerto equivocado. El computador no estaba dañado. Solo estaba mal conectado.

Antes de colgar, Tomás le dijo que, si quería evitar otro susto, podía hacer una copia de seguridad esa misma noche. Nora sonrió. No le gustaba depender de la suerte, y esa vez había aprendido la lección. Cerró la presentación, respiró más tranquila y mandó el archivo con una sensación de orgullo simple.

That afternoon, Nora opened her computer to finish a presentation. It was raining hard in Santiago and the noise in the street covered everything. She had promised to send the file before seven because the next day she had an important meeting with a client.
When she pressed the power button, the screen went black. Nora tried it two more times. Nothing. She took a deep breath and said quietly, "No, not now." She took out her cell phone and called her brother Tomás.
Tomás answered right away. He asked her to check the charger and the computer cable. Nora looked under the desk, moved a chair, and found the plug loose. She connected it again, but the screen stayed the same. "Then it could be the battery," he said calmly.
She frowned. "I don't understand, if it was charging all afternoon." Tomás asked her to turn the computer around and look for a small light on the side. Nora had not noticed it. It was dim, but it was on. That gave her a little hope.
After that, Tomás told her to unplug everything for a minute. While she waited, Nora remembered that in the morning she had moved several cables to clean the desk. When she plugged in the charger again, she saw that she had used the wrong port. The computer was not damaged. It was just plugged in wrong.
At that moment, the screen lit up. Nora let out a short laugh and Tomás laughed too. "What a relief," she said. She opened the file, checked the last slides, and saved it right away. She still had time to send it.
Before hanging up, Tomás told her that if she wanted to avoid another scare, she could make a backup that same night. Nora smiled. She did not like depending on luck, and this time she had learned her lesson. She closed the presentation, breathed more calmly, and sent the file with a simple feeling of pride.
