La historia
Mariana llegó temprano a la oficina con su celular en la mano y un café pequeño en la otra. Quería terminar un informe antes de la reunión de las diez. En la puerta, vio a Diego, su compañero de mesa, con cara seria mirando la computadora. Ella le dijo "Buenos días" y siguió caminando, pero notó que él no respondió con ganas.
Unos minutos después, Diego se acercó y habló en voz baja. "¿Tienes un minuto?", le preguntó. Mariana aceptó, aunque le sorprendió el tono. Él le mostró el celular y señaló un mensaje de la noche anterior. Allí decía que el informe estaba listo, pero el archivo nunca llegó. Diego había esperado hasta tarde y luego le había dicho al jefe que todo estaba enviado. Ahora estaba molesto, porque se sintió mal delante de los demás.
Mariana se quedó callada un segundo. Luego revisó su computadora y entendió el problema. Había escrito el mensaje desde la combi camino a su casa, y la señal se cortó justo antes de enviar el archivo. Ella pensó que el correo había salido bien. "Qué roche", dijo con sinceridad. "Yo no quise dejarte mal". Diego bajó un poco la mirada. "Yo también asumí demasiado rápido", respondió.
La conversación siguió más tranquila. Mariana le explicó que había tenido una noche larga porque su hijo se enfermó y tuvo que ir a la farmacia. Diego escuchó sin interrumpir. Después le confesó que se había puesto tenso porque el jefe llevaba varios días pidiendo ese informe y él no quería quedar mal. Los dos entendieron que el problema no era la mala intención, sino la falta de aviso claro.
Entonces Mariana abrió la computadora y reenvió el archivo en ese momento. Diego revisó el correo y sonrió con alivio. "Ya pues, quedó claro", dijo. Más tarde, en la reunión, ambos explicaron lo ocurrido de forma breve. El jefe agradeció la honestidad y pidió que, desde ese día, los documentos importantes se confirmaran por mensaje y también por correo. Mariana salió del salón más tranquila. Diego le ofreció un pan con palta que había comprado en la esquina, y ella aceptó con una sonrisa. El día siguió normal, pero la incomodidad ya había quedado atrás.

The full story in English
Mariana arrived early at the office with her cellphone in one hand and a small coffee in the other. She wanted to finish a report before the ten o'clock meeting. At the door, she saw Diego, her desk mate, with a serious face looking at the computer. She said "Good morning" to him and kept walking, but she noticed that he did not answer with much enthusiasm.
A few minutes later, Diego came over and spoke in a low voice. "Do you have a minute?", he asked her. Mariana agreed, although the tone surprised her. He showed her the cellphone and pointed to a message from the night before. It said that the report was ready, but the file never arrived. Diego had waited until late and then had told the boss that everything had been sent. Now he was upset, because he felt bad in front of the others.
Mariana stayed silent for a second. Then she checked her computer and understood the problem. She had written the message from the combi on the way home, and the signal cut out just before sending the file. She thought that the email had gone out correctly. "How embarrassing", she said honestly. "I did not mean to make you look bad." Diego lowered his gaze a little. "I also assumed too quickly", he replied.
The conversation continued more calmly. Mariana explained to him that she had had a long night because her son got sick and she had to go to the pharmacy. Diego listened without interrupting. After that, he admitted that he had gotten tense because the boss had been asking for that report for several days and he did not want to look bad. The two of them understood that the problem was not bad intentions, but a lack of clear notice.
Then Mariana opened the computer and resent the file right then. Diego checked the email and smiled with relief. "Okay then, it's clear now", he said. Later, in the meeting, both of them explained what had happened briefly. The boss thanked them for their honesty and asked that, from that day on, important documents be confirmed by message and also by email. Mariana left the room calmer. Diego offered her a bread roll with avocado that he had bought on the corner, and she accepted with a smile. The day went on normally, but the awkwardness was already over.
