La historia
Elena organizaba un concierto en un centro cultural de Lima. Su grupo había preparado seis canciones propias y esperaba llenar la pequeña sala. Faltaba una semana cuando escuchó en su computadora la grabación del último ensayo. Durante el final de una canción, se oía una voz que ninguno de los músicos reconocía.
Al principio, pensó que alguien había dejado una radio encendida. Sin embargo, la voz seguía exactamente la melodía. Era de Rosa, la encargada del centro, que había estado ordenando las sillas junto a la puerta. Elena quiso borrar aquella parte, pero el guitarrista la detuvo. Según él, esa segunda voz le daba a la canción algo que les faltaba.
El grupo necesitaba un video para anunciar el concierto. Usar ese fragmento parecía una buena solución. Elena estuvo a punto de enviarlo a las redes del centro, aunque algo le incomodaba. Rosa ni siquiera sabía que la habían grabado. Que su voz mejorara la canción no significaba que pudieran publicarla sin preguntarle.
Al día siguiente, Elena le mostró el video en su celular. Rosa se rio al escucharse, pero rechazó la propuesta. "No quiero aparecer como la señora que canta mientras trabaja", explicó. Había formado parte de un coro durante años. Le gustaba cantar, aunque no quería que su trabajo fuera el motivo de la invitación.
La respuesta tomó por sorpresa a Elena. Ella había imaginado que Rosa se sentiría halagada. Ahora entendía que habían pensado más en una historia atractiva que en la persona. Le ofreció ensayar con el grupo y decidir después. "Si no te convence, no usaremos la grabación", aseguró. Rosa aceptó, con una condición: quería elegir qué cantar.
En el ensayo, Rosa pidió bajar el volumen de la guitarra. También propuso un final distinto. El guitarrista dudó, pero acabó dándole la razón cuando escucharon el resultado. No todo salió bien a la primera. Tuvieron que repetir varias veces una entrada, y Rosa también aceptó algunas sugerencias. Al terminar, acordaron presentarla como cantante invitada.
El sábado, la sala estuvo casi llena. Antes de empezar, Rosa dejó las llaves del centro sobre una mesa y se acercó al micrófono. Elena la presentó por su nombre, sin contar el accidente de la grabación. Después del concierto, Rosa preguntó cuándo volverían a ensayar. Esta vez, nadie tuvo que convencerla.

Elena was organizing a concert at a cultural center in Lima. Her group had prepared six original songs and hoped to fill the small room. There was one week left when she listened to the recording of the latest rehearsal on her computer. During the end of one song, a voice could be heard that none of the musicians recognized.
At first, she thought someone had left a radio on. However, the voice followed the melody exactly. It belonged to Rosa, the center's caretaker, who had been arranging the chairs by the door. Elena wanted to delete that part, but the guitarist stopped her. In his opinion, that second voice gave the song something they were missing.
The group needed a video to announce the concert. Using that clip seemed like a good solution. Elena was about to send it to the center's social media accounts, although something bothered her. Rosa did not even know they had recorded her. The fact that her voice improved the song did not mean they could publish it without asking her.
The next day, Elena showed her the video on her phone. Rosa laughed when she heard herself, but rejected the proposal. "I don't want to appear as the lady who sings while she works," she explained. She had been part of a choir for years. She liked singing, although she did not want her job to be the reason for the invitation.
The response took Elena by surprise. She had imagined that Rosa would feel flattered. Now she understood that they had thought more about an appealing story than about the person. She offered her the chance to rehearse with the group and decide afterward. "If you're not convinced, we won't use the recording," she promised. Rosa accepted, on one condition: she wanted to choose what to sing.
At the rehearsal, Rosa asked them to lower the guitar's volume. She also proposed a different ending. The guitarist hesitated, but ended up agreeing with her when they heard the result. Not everything went well on the first try. They had to repeat an entrance several times, and Rosa also accepted some suggestions. When they finished, they agreed to introduce her as a guest singer.
On Saturday, the room was almost full. Before starting, Rosa left the center's keys on a table and approached the microphone. Elena introduced her by name, without telling the story of the recording accident. After the concert, Rosa asked when they would rehearse again. This time, no one had to convince her.
