La historia
El martes por la tarde, Lucía escuchó el timbre mientras trabajaba en su computadora. Salió al pasillo y vio un paquete frente a su puerta. No tenía su nombre, pero sí decía “Sr. Medina”. Lucía frunció el ceño. “Qué raro”, pensó. Tomó el paquete y revisó el resto del pasillo, pero no vio a nadie.
Subió al departamento de al lado y tocó la puerta. Después de unos segundos, abrió Carlos Medina, su vecino. Tenía cara de cansancio. Lucía levantó el paquete y le preguntó: “¿Es suyo?” Carlos sonrió con alivio. “Sí, yo lo esperaba. Gracias por traerlo.” Luego explicó que salió temprano a una junta y temía que el repartidor lo dejara con otra persona.
Lucía dudó un momento y dijo: “Yo creo que lo dejaron en mi puerta por error”. Carlos asintió. “Seguramente. Ahorita casi no hay gente en el pasillo”. Abrió la caja y vio una cafetera pequeña. Se rió porque había pedido una igual para su mamá. “Qué casualidad”, dijo ella. Carlos le mostró la nota dentro de la caja. Era una tarjeta de regalo para su madre, que cumplía años el sábado.
“Entonces sí llegó a tiempo”, dijo Lucía. Carlos se quedó pensando y le preguntó si quería tomar un café esa misma tarde. “Sale”, respondió ella. Minutos después, los dos estaban en la cocina de Carlos, hablando de los vecinos del edificio y de los paquetes que a veces se confundían. Lucía ya no estaba molesta. Al contrario, se fue a su departamento con una sonrisa y con la idea de que vivir cerca de otras personas también podía ser agradable.

On Tuesday afternoon, Lucía heard the doorbell while she was working on her computer. She went out to the hallway and saw a package in front of her door. It did not have her name, but it did say “Mr. Medina.” Lucía frowned. “How strange,” she thought. She took the package and checked the rest of the hallway, but she did not see anyone.
She went to the apartment next door and knocked on the door. After a few seconds, Carlos Medina, her neighbor, opened it. He looked tired. Lucía lifted the package and asked him, “Is it yours?” Carlos smiled with relief. “Yes, I was expecting it. Thanks for bringing it.” Then he explained that he left early for a meeting and was afraid that the delivery person would leave it with someone else.
Lucía hesitated for a moment and said, “I think they left it at my door by mistake.” Carlos nodded. “Probably. Right now there are hardly any people in the hallway.” He opened the box and saw a small coffee maker. He laughed because he had ordered one just like it for his mother. “What a coincidence,” she said. Carlos showed her the note inside the box.
