Una mesa para el cumpleaños

A Table for the Birthday

On Sunday Clara took her mother to a neighborhood restaurant. It was her mother's birthday. Clara had a reservation and wanted to pay for lunch. They both arrived at one. The place was full and smelled of chicken.

Clara spoke to the waiter. "I have a reservation for a table for two. It's under the name of Clara López." The waiter looked through the list. Then he looked at Clara's cell phone. The reservation was for Saturday. Clara had chosen another day by mistake.

Clara felt bad. Her mother was hungry and the other tables were occupied. The waiter spoke to a coworker. Then he returned with good news. There was a small table by the window. They could eat there without waiting.

They both ordered chicken with rice and mango juice. During lunch they talked about their plans for November. Her mother was happy. She liked the food very much. Clara also enjoyed lunch and stopped looking at her cell phone.

At the end Clara called the waiter to ask for the bill. She also ordered a slice of cake to share. Her mother smiled when she saw the dessert. Clara paid and kept the receipt. The birthday ended with a photo of them both.
