Find the event before the detail

When reading a short news item, identify who did what, where and when before interpreting every unfamiliar word. A headline compresses information and may use a tense differently from the body. Read the body for the actual timing and scope. The examples here are invented classroom reports, not current news.

In the fictional brief below, the opening states that a neighborhood library announced new hours. The next sentence attributes a reason to the director. Keep those roles separate: a reporter can describe an announcement without independently establishing every claim made by the person quoted.

Keep uncertainty and attribution

Según means according to and introduces a source. A phrase such as podría ampliar el servicio expresses a possibility, not a confirmed decision. No se ha confirmado explicitly limits what is known. Preserve these limits when you summarize; dropping podría can turn a tentative plan into a false certainty.

Use one sentence for the central event and another for relevant qualification. Check dates, numbers and the identity of each speaker. A news-reading exercise evaluates comprehension of the supplied text; it does not make the fictional report evidence about the real world.
