Alicia encontró al Sombrerero, a la Liebre de Marzo y a un lirón junto a una mesa llena de tazas. Aunque había sillas libres, no querían hacerle sitio. Ella se sentó de todas formas. El Sombrerero le hizo un acertijo, pero luego reconoció que no sabía la solución. Alicia esperaba una conversación más amable.
Los invitados hablaban sin parar y cambiaban de asiento para usar otras tazas. Según el Sombrerero, allí siempre eran las seis: la hora del té. En lugar de responder con claridad, todos se interrumpían. Alicia decidió marcharse. Más tarde volvió al salón de las puertas y consiguió entrar en el jardín.
Alice found the Hatter, the March Hare and a dormouse beside a table full of cups. Although there were empty chairs, they did not want to make room for her. She sat down anyway. The Hatter asked her a riddle, but then admitted that he did not know the solution. Alice had expected a kinder conversation.
The guests talked without stopping and changed seats to use other cups. According to the Hatter, it was always six o’clock there: teatime. Instead of answering clearly, they all interrupted one another. Alice decided to leave. Later she returned to the hall of doors and managed to enter the garden.
