El jardín tampoco ofrecía la tranquilidad que Alicia había imaginado. La Reina de Corazones amenazaba a todos, y el croquet resultaba imposible con flamencos y erizos que se movían solos. En el juicio por unas tartas robadas, los testimonios no aclaraban nada. Cuando la reina exigió una condena antes del veredicto, Alicia reconoció que aquel tribunal no buscaba justicia.
Alicia estaba recuperando su tamaño y dejó de tener miedo. Se enfrentó a la reina: toda aquella corte no era más que una baraja. Las cartas se lanzaron sobre ella y el sueño se rompió. Al final despertó junto al río, con su hermana retirándole hojas de la cara. Le relató la aventura; su hermana se quedó imaginando aquel mundo después de que Alicia se marchara.
The garden did not offer the peace Alice had imagined either. The Queen of Hearts threatened everyone, and croquet was impossible with flamingos and hedgehogs that moved by themselves. At the trial over some stolen tarts, the testimony clarified nothing. When the queen demanded a sentence before the verdict, Alice recognized that the court was not seeking justice.
Alice was regaining her size and stopped being afraid. She confronted the queen: that entire court was nothing more than a deck of cards. The cards hurled themselves at her, and the dream broke apart. In the end she woke beside the river, with her sister removing leaves from her face. She told her about the adventure; her sister remained imagining that world after Alice had left.
