Jim sale del fuerte a escondidas. Usa la pequeña barca de Ben Gunn para llegar a la Hispaniola. Corta la cuerda que sujeta el barco y después sube a él. A bordo encuentra a Israel Hands, un pirata herido. Hands parece ayudarlo, pero luego lo ataca. Jim se defiende y sobrevive.
El barco queda en un lugar protegido. Jim regresa al fuerte de noche. Piensa que allí estará a salvo con sus amigos, pero oye la voz del loro de Silver. Los piratas ocupan ahora el fuerte. Jim es su prisionero. Silver lo protege de los otros porque también necesita ayuda para salvarse.
Jim leaves the fort secretly. He uses Ben Gunn’s small boat to reach the Hispaniola. He cuts the rope holding the ship and later climbs aboard. On board he finds Israel Hands, a wounded pirate. Hands seems to help him, but then attacks him. Jim defends himself and survives.
The ship is left in a sheltered place. Jim returns to the fort at night. He thinks he will be safe there with his friends, but hears Silver’s parrot. The pirates now occupy the fort. Jim is their prisoner. Silver protects him from the others because he also needs help to save himself.
