Alicia languidecía junto al río, incapaz de encontrar interés en un libro sin dibujos ni conversaciones. Su aburrimiento se desvaneció cuando, de repente, un conejo blanco sacó un reloj y lamentó su retraso. Tan natural parecía su preocupación que Alicia tardó en advertir lo extraordinario del encuentro. Lo siguió hasta una madriguera y se precipitó en ella, sin haberse planteado cómo regresaría.
La caída desembocó en un salón de puertas cerradas. A través de una abertura diminuta, Alicia contempló un jardín al que no podía acceder. Una bebida le permitió encogerse, aunque dejó fuera de su alcance la llave olvidada en la mesa. Un pastel produjo el efecto contrario y la hizo crecer en exceso. Si su cuerpo seguía cambiando, ¿cómo podría confiar en las reglas que conocía?
Alice was languishing beside the river, unable to find any interest in a book without pictures or conversations. Her boredom vanished when a white rabbit suddenly took out a watch and lamented its lateness. Its concern seemed so natural that Alice was slow to notice how extraordinary the encounter was. She followed it to a burrow and plunged inside, without having considered how she would return.
The fall ended in a hall of locked doors. Through a tiny opening, Alice gazed at a garden she could not enter. A drink allowed her to shrink, although it put the key she had forgotten on the table beyond her reach. A cake had the opposite effect and made her grow excessively. If her body kept changing, how could she trust the rules she knew?
