Jim Hawkins ayudaba a su familia en una posada. Allí se alojó Billy Bones, un viejo marinero que temía a sus antiguos compañeros. Tras su muerte, Jim y su madre abrieron su cofre. Ella quiso recuperar solo el dinero que le debía. Jim encontró unos papeles y huyó con ellos antes de que llegaran los hombres que buscaban a Billy.
El paquete guardaba el mapa del tesoro de Flint. Jim se lo mostró al doctor Livesey y al señor Trelawney, que organizaron una expedición. Pronto estaba a bordo de la Hispaniola, en busca de una isla lejana. El cocinero John Silver lo trató con amistad. Jim todavía no sabía que varios marineros habían servido al propio Flint.
Jim Hawkins helped his family at an inn. Billy Bones, an old sailor afraid of his former companions, stayed there. After his death, Jim and his mother opened his chest. She wanted to recover only the money he owed her. Jim found some papers and fled with them before the men looking for Billy arrived.
The packet held the map of Flint’s treasure. Jim showed it to Doctor Livesey and Mr Trelawney, who organized an expedition. Soon he was on board the Hispaniola, in search of a distant island. The cook John Silver treated him as a friend. Jim did not yet know that several sailors had served Flint himself.
