Another chance

Bingley regresó y Jane aceptó su propuesta de matrimonio. Poco después, Lady Catherine, la tía de Darcy, exigió que Elizabeth prometiera no casarse nunca con su sobrino. Consideraba inferior a su familia. Elizabeth se negó a dar esa promesa: quería decidir por sí misma. Su respuesta llegó a Darcy y le dio una nueva esperanza.

Cuando Darcy le habló de nuevo de sus sentimientos, lo hizo con respeto y le ofreció aceptar un rechazo. Esta vez Elizabeth pudo decir que también lo amaba. Ambos habían cambiado su manera de juzgar al otro. Jane y Bingley se casaron, y Elizabeth y Darcy también. Las diferencias entre las familias continuaron, pero ya no decidían por ellos.

Bingley returned, and Jane accepted his marriage proposal. Soon afterward, Lady Catherine, Darcy’s aunt, demanded that Elizabeth promise never to marry her nephew. She considered her family inferior. Elizabeth refused to make that promise: she wanted to decide for herself. Her answer reached Darcy and gave him new hope.

When Darcy spoke to her again about his feelings, he did so with respect and offered to accept a refusal. This time Elizabeth could say she loved him too. Both had changed the way they judged the other. Jane and Bingley married, and so did Elizabeth and Darcy. The differences between the families continued, but they no longer made the decisions for them.
